Buy the Ecovacs DEEBOT N20 Plus unless your floors have things on them. Its bagless dock has no consumable at all - Ecovacs claims a saving of up to $80 a year - which over three years makes it the cheapest machine in this price range to own. Buy the Roborock Q10 S5+ if you have cables, toys or laundry on the floor, because it is the only machine under $300 that can see them.
These are the two strongest budget brands in the category and they are strong for opposite reasons. This is the comparison worth reading carefully.

Your floors have clutter. ReactiveTech structured light sees objects lying on the floor. Ecovacs' TrueMapping does not, and no software update will change that - it is a missing sensor.
You want a mop that scrubs. Its sonic vibration mop oscillates at 3,000 cycles a minute and lifts 8 mm on carpet. The N20 Plus drags a pad.
You have long-haired pets. Both brands name an anti-tangle main brush; only Roborock states an anti-tangle side brush.
You want the highest published suction. 10,000Pa against 8,000Pa - though see the caveat below about what that gap is worth.
Buy Ecovacs if
You are doing the three-year arithmetic. The bagless dock removes the single largest recurring cost in the category.
Your floors are tidy. Without clutter, the missing obstacle sensor costs you nothing, and you have paid less for the same practical result.
You have raised door thresholds. The N20 Plus publishes a 20 mm climb, which is the highest figure of any machine on this site.

The suction gap is smaller than it looks
10,000Pa against 8,000Pa is a 25% difference on paper and probably much less than that in practice. Pascal ratings have no shared test method across manufacturers - each brand measures in its own way, usually at the peak of its loudest mode. Comparing two brands' figures is comparing two different measurements that share a unit.
What is comparable is the direction: both are high figures for this price, both machines boost automatically on carpet, and neither will deep-clean pile. We would not choose between these two on the suction number.The full explanation of what Pa measures is here.
What neither of them does well
Neither dock washes the mop pad. Both empty the bin and stop there. You still remove, rinse and dry a pad after every mopping run, and if you forget, it goes back down carrying last week's dirt.
Neither recognizes objects. Roborock's structured light knows something is in the way and drives around it; it does not know what it is. Camera-based object recognition does not exist under $300 from either brand.
Neither publishes noise figures. Both are running large fans to hit those suction numbers, and neither states a decibel rating. In an open-plan home that is a real gap in the specification, and we will not estimate one.

Who it is for: A mixed-floor home with pets, clutter and rugs - the situation every other machine here handles by giving something up.
Skip it if: your floors are entirely hard and entirely tidy. Structured-light avoidance and an 8 mm mop lift are what you are paying the premium for, and a bare hard-floor flat uses neither.

Skip it if: your home is cluttered at floor level. LiDAR maps walls, not socks and charging cables, and without obstacle avoidance this machine will eventually eat one.

We have no reliability data of our own and will not invent any. Both are established manufacturers with large installed bases, which is the most useful signal available - it means parts and app support are likely to still exist in several years, which is not true of every brand in this price range.
