For carpet under $300, buy the Roborock Q10 S5+. It publishes 10,000Pa, detects carpet ultrasonically and raises suction automatically, and lifts its mop pad 8 mm clear so it can cross a rug without wetting it. That last feature is what makes it the only machine here that handles a mixed hard-floor and carpeted home in a single run.
Before the ranking, the honest part: no robot vacuum at this price will deep-clean carpet, and neither will one at four times the price. What they do is maintain it, and that is a genuinely different and genuinely useful job.

Why carpet is hard for a robot vacuum
An upright vacuum plugs into the wall, so its motor can draw as much power as it likes. It weighs fifteen pounds or more, so it presses a beater bar into the pile with real force. And you push it, so it moves slowly over a small area with a person applying pressure.
A robot vacuum carries a battery it has to make last two hours, which hard-caps the motor. It weighs four to eight pounds, which caps how hard any brush can press. And it drives across the floor at walking pace. None of those constraints is about price. A $1,200 robot vacuum has the same battery physics as a $200 one; it simply has better sensors and a nicer dock.
So the honest expectation is this: a robot vacuum running daily keeps the surface layer of a carpet - the dust, crumbs and hair that lands on it - permanently under control, so it never gets ground in. That is worth a lot. It is not the same as vacuuming, and you will still want an upright a few times a year.
The two features that genuinely help on carpet
Automatic carpet boost. The machine detects when it has driven onto pile and raises suction without being told. This matters more than a high headline figure, because the headline figure is usually a maximum the machine will not sustain - what you want is for the maximum to be applied at the exact moment it is needed. Ecovacs, Roborock, Tikom and Tapo all publish this behavior.
Mop lift. If you buy a vacuum-and-mop machine and have carpet, this is not optional. Without it, a machine that has just mopped your kitchen will drive onto your lounge rug still dragging a wet pad. The Roborock Q10 S5+ publishes an 8 mm lift with ultrasonic carpet detection; most machines at this price handle it instead by having you draw a no-mop zone, which works but requires you to remember.

How thick is too thick
The practical ceiling is around medium pile. Above that, two things go wrong at once: the machine struggles to drive across the surface, wasting battery and sometimes getting beached, and the brush cannot reach anywhere near the base of the pile.
High-pile and shag rugs should be treated as furniture - draw a no-go zone around them and vacuum them by hand. That is not a failure of the machine, it is the correct use of it, and setting that expectation up front is the difference between being pleased with a purchase and being disappointed by it.
