Under $300, buy Roborock if you have the full budget and Roomba if you do not. At the ceiling Roborock gives you 10,000Pa published, LiDAR, anti-tangle brushes and a self-emptying dock - iRobot's cheapest self-emptying machine is well above $300. Below about $180 Roborock has nothing, and iRobot sells genuine LiDAR mapping from a twenty-year-old brand at $149. The middle of the range is where it gets interesting.
Comparisons of these two brands are usually written about their flagships, which is no help at all - Roborock's $1,400 machine and iRobot's $900 one tell you nothing about what either sells at the budget end. Everything below is scoped to machines currently purchasable under this site's ceiling.

Both machines scored on the published rubric from How We Pick: suction 25%, navigation 25%, pet hair 20%, running cost 20%, setup 10%. Editorial judgments about published specifications, not test results.
Prices move. What does not move is that Roborock's budget range starts near the ceiling and iRobot's starts less than half way to it.
The honest difference: one of them tells you the numbers
Roborock publishes suction in Pascals, dock capacity in liters, mop scrub rate per minute and mop lift height in millimeters. Every one of those can be checked against a competitor and argued about.
iRobot publishes almost none of it. The headline claim on both Roomba 105 machines is "70x more power-lifting suction", and the small print makes clear that is relative to iRobot's own 600 series - a machine designed around 2012. It is not a specification. It cannot be compared to a Pascal figure, to a competitor, or to anything except a fifteen-year-old robot most buyers have never owned.
That is a real mark against iRobot and this site says so on every Roomba page. It is also, in fairness, not the same thing as the machine being weak - we simply cannot tell you either way, which is precisely the problem. Buy Roborock if
You want to stop emptying a bin. A sealed 2.7 L dock lasts roughly two months, and it is included at $280. iRobot will sell you the same convenience, but not under $300.
You have pets. The JawScrapers main brush plus a stated anti-tangle side brush is the most complete answer to hair wrap in this price range, and iRobot publishes no equivalent claim.
You have rugs and want to mop. The Q10 S5+ lifts its pad 8 mm and keeps cleaning. Both Roomba 105 machines avoid carpet instead, so the rug goes unvacuumed on a mop run.
You shop on specifications. This is the brand that gives you enough of them to do that.
Buy Roomba if
Your budget is under about $200. Roborock does not compete here. A Roomba 105 Vac at $149 is the cheapest real LiDAR mapping on the market from a major brand, and that is a genuinely strong position.
You want the app to still work in five years. The Roomba Home app is the most mature in the category and iRobot has been supporting robots since 2002. Neither of those is a specification, and both are worth something.
You want a mop for the least money from a big brand. The Roomba 105 Combo adds a pump-fed pad and SmartScrub for about thirty dollars over the vacuum-only model.
You will buy consumables from a shop rather than a marketplace listing. iRobot parts cost more, but they are everywhere and they are unambiguous.
The comparison people are actually searching for
The specific pairing that comes up most is the Roomba 105 against a Roborock Q7 M5+ or Q10 S5+, and it is not a fair fight on paper - it is a $149 machine against a $280 one. Lined up properly, the question is what the extra $130 buys.

The honest summary of this table is that the map is the thing you were buying, and iRobot sells it for $149. Everything else in the right-hand column is real, and none of it is the map.
If mopping is part of the plan, compare the Roomba 105 Combo rather than the Vac, and read how the two brands handle carpet while mopping before you decide - it is the one place where the cheaper machine's compromise is significant rather than cosmetic.

Skip it if: your floors are entirely hard and entirely tidy. Structured-light avoidance and an 8 mm mop lift are what you are paying the premium for, and a bare hard-floor flat uses neither.
