Two machines from the same range that share a suction figure, a laser, a brush design and a dock. What the Q10 adds is a third sensor and a mop that lifts - and those are worth more than they sound.

When the two are priced within about twenty dollars of each other - which is where they sat when we last checked - buy the Q10 S5+. It is not a different class of machine, it is the Q7 M5+ with two sensors the Q7 does not have: ReactiveTech structured-light obstacle avoidance, and ultrasonic carpet detection driving a mop pad that lifts 8 mm. Everything else about the two is the same specification.
This is an unusually clean comparison, because Roborock has not played the usual game of giving each model a different advantage. There is no specification on which the Q7 M5+ beats the Q10 S5+. The only question is whether the gap is worth whatever the price difference is on the day you buy.

That is most of a robot vacuum. If your floors are clear and you do not mop, the two machines will do the same job and you should simply buy whichever is cheaper on the day.

Structured light is the upgrade people underrate
A LiDAR turret maps walls and furniture at its own height. It is excellent at knowing where the room is, and completely blind to a phone charger, a sock or a dog toy lying on the floor - those sit below the scan plane. That is why a machine can have superb mapping and still drag a cable across the living room.
ReactiveTech projects a line of light onto the floor ahead and watches how it bends, which gives the machine a read on objects the laser cannot see. It is not the camera-plus-AI system you get at three times the price, and it will not reliably identify what the object is. What it does is stop the machine hitting it. Whether this is worth paying for is a question about your home rather than about the machine. If you tidy the floor before a run - and plenty of people do - it buys you nothing. If the point of the robot is that you do not have to tidy first, it is the difference between a machine you trust to run unattended and one you do not.
The mop difference is bigger than the mop spec suggests
Both machines mop. Only the Q10 S5+ does something mechanical while mopping, and only the Q10 S5+ picks the pad up again.
In a home with any rugs, that second point is the one that matters. On the Q7 M5+ the pad stays down, so you either keep the machine off the rugs or you take the pad off before every run. On the Q10 S5+ ultrasonic detection finds the rug, the pad lifts 8 mm, suction rises and the machine vacuums the rug in the same pass. Why other pages on this site rank the Q7 M5+ first
You will find the Q7 M5+ at the top of several rankings here, including pet hair and cat litter, with the Q10 S5+ lower down. That is worth explaining rather than leaving as an apparent contradiction.
Those pages were written when the Q10 S5+ was priced above this site's $300 ceiling and the Q7 M5+ was not. On the specifications that those rankings turn on - the JawScrapers brush and the anti-tangle side brush - the two machines are identical, so the Q7 M5+ was the reliable route to that brush pair. At today's prices the two sit together, and where they do, the Q10 S5+ is the better buy for the reasons above. Prices move; the specifications do not.

Who it is for: A mixed-floor home with pets, clutter and rugs - the situation every other machine here handles by giving something up.
Skip it if: your floors are entirely hard and entirely tidy. Structured-light avoidance and an 8 mm mop lift are what you are paying the premium for, and a bare hard-floor flat uses neither.
